This is my first year volunteering with SHOCKERTHON and my first year able to attend! Even though I have not had the chance to experience the magic of the Big Event, I have personally seen the assistance events like SHOCKERTHON provide to patients at Children's Miracle Network and their famililes.
My brother was born with a rare white-cell blood disease. He had a normal childhood playing sports and going to school, but every few years the disease would flare up and he would be hospitalized for up to a few weeks. He tried different treatments and medications, but nothing seemed to help. My most distinctive memory I have from this time in my life happened when I was in sixth grade and he was in eighth. It was in the middle of the school year and the disease hit his body hard. He had to be flown to CMN where he ended up staying for a little over 6 weeks. This was especially difficult for my mother because she was responsible for me as well. Luckily we had a family friend that allowed me to stay with them to finish school while my mom and brother were gone. The support my family received from the staff was overwhelming. Without the support of donations from events like SHOCKERTHON, my brother would not have received the care he needed and would not be doing as well as he is now.
That is why I stand. There is an unlarming amount of families that need the help of others and as long as I can, I fully intend to give back. I challenge you to stand for those that can't and join us as we strive to raise our incredible goal of $100,000!
SHOCKERTHON is made possible by the donations from our generous sponsors. A special thanks to our Exclusive, Angel and Dream Sponsors: Credit Union of America, Learjet Employee Fund, Uplift, Kansas Gas Services, Cobham and Paul Mitchell. Without the contributions from our sponsors, SHOCKERTHON and our Big Event would not have the lasting impact that it does on the community.
