It has been awesome to see how much this event has grown in the past three years. From raising $15,700 in the first year to year three raising over $57,000 it’s amazing. The event has grown so fast we even had to change the venue to the Kansas Start Arena, which I am really looking forward to this year.
There are so many things that I take for granted every day and being able to stand is one of them. For those Miracle Kids who cannot stand on their own, this event is for them. We stand for those who can’t for the whole 12 hours.
In the summer our exec team went and visited the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Via Christi. It was really an eye opening experience to see what these families and kids have to go through on a day-by-day basis. The nurses showed us some of the equipment and explained how expensive it is. One way the money raised through SHOCKERTHON for Children’s Miracle Network helps is by buying this equipment that the hospital could not afford otherwise. The money raised from SHOCKERTHON also helps the families pay for expenses that insurance does not cover such as hearing aids, medicines, formula and diapers just to name a few. I know $25 may seem like a lot for us college students for an event, but these families and kids need the money a lot more than we do. I hope to see everyone at the Kansas Star Arena on November 22nd, because this event will truly change your life.
SHOCKERTHON is made possible by the donations from our generous sponsors. A special thanks to our sponsors Mel Hambelton Ford, Kansas Star® Arena, Meritrust Credit Union, Auto Masters, Credit Union of America, Cessna United Friendship Fund, Cargill® and the Learjet Employees Care Fund. Without the contributions from these sponsors, this event would not have the lasting impact that it does on the community.
